Extremely cheap to make and can be used for a variety of dishes such as homemade soups and desserts. There are so many possibilities you will be finding excuses to use this cream.
Homemade Vegan Oat Cream
Prep time: 30 mins
Total time: 35 mins
Yield: 200ml approx
Ingredients
1 cup of Organic Oats
2 cups of hot water
1 tsp Organic agave syrup (opt)
Instructions
1. Pour hot water over the oat’s, stir thoroughly and leave for 30 mins. You can add a sweetener for using the cream in desserts. I wouldn’t recommend it for soups.
2. Stir oat’s again, add a splash of water to loosen up if necessary. It will look like thick porridge.
3. Strain the oats. You can either use a sieve, muslin or nut milk bag.
Can be kept in the fridge in a sterile closed container for up to 2 weeks.
Wow so simple, this is a great way to save money too. Thank you for sharing
Your welcome 🙂 I hope you enjoy!
Can you use the oats once strained…possibly flapjack or something similar??
Probably not flatjack! Something like oat biscuits or crackers maybe, I will need to experiment with that!
Does it matter what kind of oats – steel cut or old-fashioned? Can’t wait to try!
Hi 👋 no it doesn’t matter. Let me know how you get on, feedback is greatly appreciated!!
Such an easy simple recipe and great for anyone vegan or avoiding dairy products.
Thank you 🙂 glad you like the recipe 🙂
I’ve never thought of making my own oat cream so this is actually a welcome recipe. I will attempt this soon.
Wow looks so delicious…will give it a try
I did this one too before. And I really like it. But I haven’t tried the agave syrup. Might try that one too. Thanks for this homemad erecipe.
I’m so happy you like it! The agave just gives it extra bit of sweetness, its not that necessary but compliments things like cakes a lot better. Thank you for your feedback its much appreciated 🙂
I have never used oat cream before. Wouldn’t the oats make it lumpy?
Not at all! Straining the oats with a cheesecloth allows you to separate the liquid so that the oats don’t pass through, leaving you with creamy, oaty goodness 🙂
I don’t think I’ve heard of Oat Cream before this post but will definitely have to try it now! Keep up the good work!
Great- I have the recepy now. But would you mind giving me a hint for what to use it? Sorry for being bit dumb…
That’s okay. It’s great for make creamy soup, can add into tomato sauces for a creamier sauce. Can also use in coffee extra, so many options 🙂
I never knew or heard that oats can be used for making a great healthy substitute for the normal cream and it is cheaper too .Thanks !
Your very welcome! I hope you enjoy!
I never knew or heard that oats can be used to make such a great vegan substitute for the normal milk based cream that we use .Thanks !
Have you tried whipping this? Great recipe thank! x
Thank you! I have and it acts more like a single cream. I am going to continue to experiment with it as I know there will be a way to get it to thicken! Coconut cream is what I use for whipped cream in the time being 🙂 x
